Parents and Leaders:
Shooting Sports Leader Training in Missoula – wow, this doesn’t happen often. We need more trained leaders and if your child has expressed any interest in the shooting sports projects, now is a good time take advantage of this opportunity. See attachments and message below. Colleen
Dear Counties and 4-H Shooting Sports Leaders,
The Montana 4-H Shooting Sports Advisory Committee met on Saturday and voted to add an additional day to the Missoula leader training. We will offer Archery and Rifle on Sunday as well as Saturday. The additional charge will be $35 for the second day. Anyone passing up pistol, shogun, or muzzle loading because they needed rifle or archery training can now get two disciplines in one trip.
Also, the Cowboy Shooting discipline will not be offered. We are planning a cowboy extravaganza training this fall patterned after the successful training we had in Missouri last summer and the upcoming training we will conduct in Texas this coming June. As a result, leaders will be much better prepared for this project.
The information below is correct, but with Sunday added and the Cowboy discipline dropped.
The next Montana 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training will be held in Missoula on April 29th, 30th, and May 1st. The deadline for registration is April 20th. We will be offering all disciplines (except cowboy) if there is adequate interest. Please see the attachments for the registration form and agenda. Please note that leaders must be trained before they can serve as 4-H Shooting Sports key leaders in a county program. Assistants do not need training, but must work under a trained leader who is present and involved anytime shooting occurs.
The registration fee is $50 for adults and $25 for teen leaders (teens may only assist a 4-H shooting sports program if under the direct supervision of a trained and certified 4-H shooting sports adult leader of the same shooting discipline). The fee for two disciplines is $85 for adults. Youth can attend the second day for the original $25 registration fee.
The training will begin at 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday night and continue from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a free chili dinner served on Friday night courtesy of the fine folks in Missoula County and lunch is provided on Saturday and Sunday as part of the registration. Missoula County will also have breakfast items at each shooting location on Saturday. Educational materials are also included. Lodging is on your own, however, the below hotels are providing a special rate:
Ruby’s Reserve Street Inn - $69.00/night plus applicable taxes. A block of 10 rooms has been set aside under Missoula County 4-H. The phone number is 406-721-0990. Reservations need to be made by April 13.
C'Mon Inn - $99.00/night plus applicable taxes. Again, rooms are set aside under Missoula County 4-H. The phone number is 406-543-4600.
If you need further hotel information or would like more options, please call Sherie at 406-544-7834.
Complete information will be sent to registrants as the dates approach.
Thank you for informing your leaders of this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Todd Kesner
